How to Promote Your NSFW OnlyFans

What is OnlyFans?

If you’re reading this, you likely know what OnlyFans is and have already made an account (because you’re here wondering how to promote said account) - however, if you’re new to this platform, let me explain…

OnlyFans is a content-sharing platform that works similarly to Netflix - creators monetize their content by selling directly to their fans for the cost of a monthly subscription. Think of it as a social media platform with a paywall.

Who uses OnlyFans?

OnlyFans is known for being NSFW-friendly, meaning sex workers and adult content creators can thrive there. While OnlyFans is home to all kinds of content creators, NSFW/adult content creators, in particular, do well on this platform.

How do I set up an OnlyFans account?

Creating an OnlyFans account is free and fairly straightforward, although the approval process for your page may take some time.

  1. First, you sign up (either with your Twitter account or email address).
  2. Then, you verify your email with the link they send.
  3. Next, you will need to verify your identity and set up a payment system. Verifying your identity involves taking a photo of yourself with your government-issued ID (driver’s license or ID card/passport).
  4. Once you’ve filled in all this information, you will need to send it off for approval from OnlyFans. During this stage, they verify your identity and age. This typically takes up to 72 hours.
  5. Once you’ve been approved, you will need to set a subscription rate, customize your profile, and start uploading.

For more information on setting up an OnlyFans, read our OnlyFans Starter Guide. Then, once you’ve set up, come back to this page for more information on how to promote your OnlyFans account.

How to promote your OnlyFans page

Let’s get into the how and why of OnlyFans promo - first, how? How do you promote your OnlyFans page? Of course, the answer is online - but there are tons of different tools you can use in your promotion that will give you a little extra boost.

Promote on other social media platforms.

Using social media platforms to promote other social media platforms is what influencers do. They create an intricate web of promotions: Twitter promotes Snapchat, Snapchat promotes Instagram, Instagram promotes Facebook, Facebook promotes Youtube...and the list goes on. Promoting your OnlyFans on social media is something we’ll get down to more in the “where” section of this post but creating your own little promotion circle is really going to help you boost visibility to multiple target audiences.

Word of mouth (people you speak with online).

If you’re someone who is in DM rooms, like to private message people, or are a part of a few forums, don’t be shy! Don’t hesitate to mention to people that you’re starting an OnlyFans account. Of course, don’t be overly promotional and annoy people, but if there is a group of online friends you run with, let them know - chances are they will promote you if you’re close friends.

Building a close-knit group of OnlyFans friends to promote each other.

Speaking of friends...the BDSM community online is one of the most supportive, caring, accepting groups of people I’ve ever had the pleasure of interacting with. Again, this can be in forums, in private messaging groups, or even just in general when you meet new people in closer-knit groups - don’t hesitate to say you’re an OnlyFans newbie looking to grow your following!

Email newsletters or a website promoting your content creation.

While it may seem strange to create a website to promote your OnlyFans, the more visible you are to Google, the more visible you are to the world - this is part of the reality of the internet when Google is the top search engine. While various parts of the internet like to suppress NSFW content, creating a website (something like a model portfolio) and showcasing some of your more modest photos (then with a link to your OnlyFans) can help drum up the kind of attention your page needs.

Run paid promotions or collaborate with other OnlyFans creators.

This is something that is commonly done in the world of content creation - paid promotions or collaborations. There are lots of ways for OnlyFans creators to get their profile out there on a paid promotion. Not interested in investing that kind of money? Why not just put in some effort and connect with other OnlyFans creators to see if you can promote each other. This is a free, simple, and fun way to gain traction in the community.

How to promote your OnlyFans anonymously…

There are plenty of reasons you may not be able to use the above ways of promotion, one of the most common reasons being that you’d like to keep the fact that you have an OnlyFans account private from the people in your life. If this is the case, you can create a whole new set of social media handles (that match your OnlyFans username) to promote your work. OnlyFans also has a “block this region” feature, which allows you to block your profile from certain regions and/or countries, making it more difficult for people from your area to find you.

Where to promote your OnlyFans page

Now that we’ve established you can use various social media platforms to promote other social media platforms, let’s talk about the best NSFW social media platforms to help you promote your OnlyFans page.

Twitter

Naturally, this is the starting point, as OnlyFans integrates flawlessly with Twitter. The main reason for this is likely that, of all the platforms, Twitter has the least strict NSFW policies around. Twitter also has a large underground NSFW/sex-worker-friendly community.

On Twitter, you will be able to find threads to promote sex workers, OnlyFans threads, and lots of other BDSM related community chats to help you out.

Snapchat

Using Snapchat to promote any kind of NSFW content can be a bit risky (since their platform actually has fairly “strict” no-nudity policies) - but everyone does it. With Premium Snapchat accounts (read more about that here) and the ideal “my messages disappear” style of the platform, it makes communicating with potential fans or clients of your services really simple and secure.

Using Snapchat to promote OnlyFans can be as simple as posting censored content (that is safe for Snapchat) with a caption about how to find the NSFW version on your OnlyFans account.

Instagram & Facebook

Of all of the social media platforms, Instagram and Facebook are the most difficult if you’re an NSFW content creator because of their very strict policies. Instagram is owned by Facebook, meaning they have some (if not all) of the same policies. Instagram is known for being a little more influencer-friendly, as this is mostly how that platform has become so popular. However, on Instagram and Facebook, you have to be very careful about which hashtags you use and how you promote your OnlyFans.

There is a no-nudity policy on these platforms that can result in you having your account banned or deleted if you violate their terms one too many times, and as someone who has gotten one of these notices before, they can be pretty vague. The message I received was something like “a post selected below has infringed on our policies of nudity” - which didn’t really help me establish what I’d really done that Instagram didn’t like.

However, if you are interested in using Instagram (as it IS a viral site for influencers), stick to posting censored pics with a “link in bio” tagline of how to find the uncensored things on your OnlyFans page.

Youtube & Google

Another great way to promote your OnlyFans is to start creating content about creating an OnlyFans. Using Google and Youtube, you can start posting videos and/or blog posts about “how to start an OnlyFans” or “how much money I made on OnlyFans”, etc. These kinds of posts are extremely popular (as you may know since you’re reading this right now) - and when you create this kind of content, you can always link to your own OnlyFans page throughout, while using keywords that are specific to OnlyFans, meaning you’ll get good Google hits on content that it promoting your page.

Reddit & Other Forums

The great thing about the internet is that there are forums and communities for almost anything. The communities for OnlyFans and sex workers/NSFW content creators online are such powerful tools in ensuring that your content reaches as many people as possible. Posting about your new venture in BDSM forums on Reddit and in other places can help you gain visibility with people who are genuinely interested in your content.

Tips for running a successful OnlyFans page

Once you’ve got your OnlyFans page set up and you’ve begun to promote it, you will want to stay at a level with it where your fans are getting what they pay for in both quality and quantity. You also want to ensure you continue to grow both as a creator and in follower-count.

How do you keep a successful OnlyFans page running?

Post consistently.

The easiest way to grow your following is to post on a regular basis so they know what to expect from you and when. If you’re able to post comfortably twice per day, do that. If you’re able to do more or less, create a plan and stick to it. This way, people know (approximately) what times of day you post. You can even highlight this in your “welcome” message or biography so people know when to check your page for new updates.

Create a “tip” menu.

If you are able to offer additional customized content, be sure to include that on your bio. Make it noticeable and known that you’re willing to create custom content for a price by setting a tip menu up. $5.00 for a customized voice message, $10 for a customized striptease, etc. This can be a great way to make extra cash on top of the monthly rate you charge.

Ask your fans what they want to see more (or less) of.

‘Give the people what they want’ applies to pretty much everything service-related, OnlyFans included. If you’re interested in pleasing your fans, ask them what they desire and provide it. This is also a great way to build up engagement (comments on your photos) which helps boost your visibility on the platform.

Make it known that you’re open to custom videos/photos (if you are).

If you’re a content creator who offers and enjoys creating customizable content for your fans, promote that fact! People love getting tailored content that is specific to the things they enjoy. Promoting this fact will help you get more custom requests, which will not only help you bring in more cash but will also boost your visibility.

Give your fans rewards for recommending you to their friends.

Working on a rewards system can be as easy as giving your fans extra content for free when they refer friends to your page. This kind of word-of-mouth promotion works really well especially in NSFW circles where the communities (such as the BDSM community on Twitter, as an example) are quite close-knit.

Make your posts authentic and engaging.

Everyone wants a piece of the “real” you, that’s one of the benefits of subscribing to a platform like OnlyFans. Yes, you’re likely still staging photos, but your fans are getting to see more of you than you’d naturally post on Instagram or Twitter, as examples. Making authentic and engaging posts can be something like a quick selfie from your bedroom or a snapshot of you making a yummy breakfast in your bathrobe.

Take high-quality videos and photos.

No one wants to sign up for an OnlyFans and pay a monthly fee to see posts that aren’t good quality. Investing in a good camera and lighting system should be one of your first moves as a content creator - your fans (and your follower-count) will thank you for it later!

Follow the best in the business (and get tips from them).

There are a lot of great resources on how to make it big on OnlyFans - like Leo from The OnlyFans Bible, who shares all his advice on how he’s grown on the platform - he even does page ratings to let people know how their page looks from an outside perspective. Fit Sid is another Youtuber/OnlyFans creator who shares her experiences with OnlyFans on her Youtube channel, from how much money she’s made to how to take good pictures and grow your following.

More OnlyFans resources can be found at the bottom of our previous post.

Use “subscriber goals” to drive signups.

This is a tip from the Webcam Startup Guide, and I just had to include it on our list. Essentially, you “reward” your fans when you get to a certain number of subscribers. For example, when you reach 50 subscribers, you will do a voice reveal video. Or when you reach 100 subscribers, you will do a giveaway. This offers an incentive for your fans to share and promote for you, which can be a great way to gain a following with little-to-no effort on your part!

OnlyFans FAQ

  1. How much money do you earn on OnlyFans?

Naturally, the first question is about money - content creators do love creating content, but they also want to be compensated fairly for their time and services, right? So...just how much money can you make on OnlyFans? While it depends on lots of variables, let’s look at the price breakdown...OnlyFans takes a commission of 20% of whatever you make, meaning you get 80%. If your fans pay $5.99 (a “lower” price) for your content per month, OnlyFans will get $1.19 and you will get $4.79. While this doesn’t seem like a lot, it adds up (obviously) when you have more followers. If you have 100 fans paying that each month, you will be bringing in about $479 per month. Not too bad!

  1. How do I price my OnlyFans?

While we’re on the subject of money...how do you decide the price for your OnlyFans? According to this OnlyFans set up guide, $7.99 - $14.99 is the “sweet spot” for OnlyFans pricing. Where you go on that scale (or a little below/above it) will depend on a few things: what fanbase you already have, how often you plan to post, the quality of your content, and what it includes. For example, if you’re someone who plans only to post photos (not videos) and only once a day, you are going to want to charge less than someone who posts both photos and videos multiple times a day. Look around the platform first and get a feel for what others are charging. This will help you decide where you are in regards to their content and adjust your price accordingly.

  1. Can content creators on OnlyFans get paid via Paypal?

Paypal (and Venmo) are two of the more preferred methods of payment for online transactions, however, there is no official support between OnlyFans and Paypal/Venmo. Most of the time, OnlyFans pays directly into your bank account. There are some countries where OnlyFans allows “e-wallet” transfers, but their preferred app is Paxum.

For UK creators, the popular options are direct transfer (OCT), international bank transfer (SWIFT), or e-wallet.

For EU creators, the popular options are direct transfer (OCT), international bank transfer (SEPA), or e-wallet.

For CAN/AU creators, the popular options are direct transfer (OCT in AUD only), international transfer (AUD & CAD), and e-wallet.

FOR US creators, there is currently only one option, which is by bank transfer (ACH).

Creators from other countries may be offered a variation of services from direct transfers/international bank transfers or e-wallet transfers. Learn more about payment methods here.

  1. Do content creators pay taxes?

Yes - any income you earn is taxable, even through online platforms like Sofia Gray or OnlyFans. You are considered “self-employed” or this is considered a “secondary income”, depending on how much you earn. Just because it’s taxable doesn’t mean you have to pay taxes on it - as, in most countries, if you’re making below a certain amount, you do still have to claim it on your taxes but it won’t be enough that you will be taxed on it.

OnlyFans will issue you a form that you can send along to your accountant or bank for when you file your taxes. If your goal is to pay a lesser tax bill on this income, it could be beneficial for you to create a “business” for your content creation to keep it separate from your private taxes. For more information on that, read here.

  1. Can OnlyFans be anonymous?

Yes, you can be anonymous on OnlyFans. You only need to provide your real ID, name, and full-face photo upon setup, but this information will not be shared with your fans. There is no rule saying you have to post face-reveal content, although many fans do enjoy this. With some hard work and discretion, it’s completely possible to stay anonymous on OnlyFans. You can also use their geo-block feature, which allows you to block out certain countries and regions from accessing your profile - this way you’re less likely to be found out by someone you know.

  1. What are “free” subscriptions on OnlyFans?

If you’ve been searching around the platform, you’ve likely seen a few profiles listed as “free” and wondered what this means. How do people who list their profile as “free” still earn money? By pay-walling certain posts. You can create and allow your fans to access your profile completely free of charge, and only select certain posts that are locked behind a pay-wall. This way, you can still promote your page to people unwilling or undecided if they want to pay your subscription price but still entice people with more intimate content that they can unlock for a certain price.
